Mission Intermission

Due to the Covid 19, Coronavirus
Jaxon had MISSION INTERMISSION......

Elder Singley has been reassigned to the
Tacoma Washington Mission June 2020-October 2020

Elder Singley, Congratulations on your re-assignment to serve in the Washington Tacoma
Mission. First, thank you for coming back out to a different mission and finishing
what the Lord has called you to do. This says a lot about you and the kind of disciple
of Jesus Christ you are committed to be! We are excited to welcome you to one of the most
wonderful missions in the world. The Tacoma area is not only incredibly beautiful, but there
are many people here whom the Lord has prepared to receive the gospel and be baptized.

We understand that you were originally assigned to another country but know it is a
privilege for us to have you join our mission. We will cheer you on and love you as if
you had been here in Washington since the first day of your mission. We would ask
you to read the talk by Elder David Bednar titled "Called to the Work"

When you arrive at the airport on June 6, 2020m Sister Leishman and I will
be there to welcome you with a warm greeting. However, please understand that the missionary
department has asked that you wear your facemask and practice social distancing, to keep everyone
safe, but also to help the public see missionaries of the church act in accordance with the current
COVID-19 mandate of the state of Washington.

We learn from Preach my Gospel that we are "set apart from the world to a higher plane of thought
and activity" As you focus your time and attention on serving the Lord, you will have
the most wonderful experience of your life to date.

In Helaman 10:4-5 it says "Blessed are thou, for those things which thou hast done; for
I have heeled how thou hast with unwearyingness declared the word, which I have given unto thee, unto this people....because thou has done this with such unwearyingness , behold, I will bless thee
forever."

Elders and Sisters, we know this is true. He will bless you not only now but as you continue to live the gospel of Jesus Christ everyday for the rest of your life.

WE ARE A MISSION OF:
HIGH LOVE
HIGH TRUST
HIGH EXPECTATIONS

We love you, President and Sister Leishman

WASHINGTON TACOMA MISSION
Mission Recitation

The following should be memorized and recited when missionaries are together for meetings, firesides, etc.

Doctrine and Covenants, Section 4
“Now behold, a marvelous work is about to come forth among the children of men.
Therefore, O ye that embark in the service of God, see that ye serve him with all your heart, might, mind and strength, that ye may stand blameless before God at the  last day.
   Therefore, if ye have desires to serve God ye are called to the work;
   For behold the field is white already to harvest; and lo, he that thrusteth in his sickle with his might, the same layeth up in store that he perisheth not, but bringeth salvation to his soul;
And faith, hope, charity and love, with an eye single to the glory of God, qualify him for the work.
Remember faith, virtue, knowledge, temperance, patience, brotherly kindness, godliness, charity, humility, diligence.
Ask, and ye shall receive; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. Amen.

The Standard of Truth
...the standard of truth has been erected; No unhallowed hand can stop the work from progressing; persecutions may rage, mobs may combine, armies may assemble, calumny may defame, but the truth of God will go forth boldly, nobly, and independent, till it has penetrated every continent, visited every clime, swept every country, and sounded in every ear, till the purposes of God shall be accomplished, and the great Jehovah shall say the work is done."

Mission Motto
Faith is the power, Love is the motive,
Obedience is the price, The Spirit is the key,
The restoration is the message,
Members are the means, Christ is the reason,
Baptism is the way, Joy is the reward.

3 Nephi 5:13
Behold, I am a disciple of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. I have been called of him to declare his word among his people, that they might have everlasting life

Preach My Gospel
Our purpose is to invite others to come unto Christ by helping them receive the restored gospel through faith in Jesus Christ and His Atonement, repentance, baptism, receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost, and enduring to the end.

And in the WA-TAC, We BAPTIZE!”

WASHINGTON TACOMA MISSION
GUIDELINES FOR MISSIONARIES & FAMILY MEMBERS

The following is information that we feel will be helpful for both missionaries and their parents.  Please read and discuss together.  Plan to read through your call packet several times.  This helps to ensure that nothing gets overlooked.

BEDDING
Sheets, a blanket and a pillow will be provided for you by the mission. If you prefer to bring your own please call the office.

SMART PHONE
Follow instructions included with your call to obtain a personal Samsung phone. The phone needs to meet the following requirements: Needs to be a Samsung, Android 8 (Oreo) or 9 (Pie), Android 10 (Q) is not currently supported. The carrier needs to be unlocked to work with any GSM carrier. Your phone must be compatible with GSM phone networks and must be unlocked to work with any GSM network.  Some common examples of approved Samsung phones include Galaxy A, and S. Samsung Galaxy “Core” models and M series smartphones are not approved. Non-Samsung smartphones, such as other Android phones or apple iPhones, are not allowed. Call the mission office with any questions.

FAMILY HISTORY
Please come with a copy of your family’s genealogy on a family history Fan Chart, if possible (laminated would be great). Your ward Family History Consultant can help you with this.

AUTO INSURANCE
As a full-time missionary, you are covered under Church auto insurance ONLY while driving or as a passenger in a Church-owned vehicle. You may not be covered if you are not a Church-certified driver (valid blue card) and are the driver who is involved in an accident.  You are not covered by Church auto insurance while driving or as a passenger in a vehicle that is not owned by the Church.

As a missionary you are not to operate a vehicle that is not owned by the Church. You and your parents may choose to maintain auto insurance coverage for instances where Church auto insurance would not cover an incident.  This is a personal decision.

MEDICAL INFORMATION AND PERSONAL INSURANCE
Please read carefully the Medical Information provided in the Call Packet. Prescription Medication can only be mailed by a certified pharmacy.  If you have required medications, please bring enough for the first month of your mission.  Note that if you have private health insurance, this is the primary insurance. Missionary Medical will be used as a secondary insurance. You should bring your personal insurance card with you to the mission field. Please send us a copy of that card, front and, back, as soon as possible.

If you do not have insurance, the Church will pay your necessary medical expenses during your mission, except for medical conditions that existed before your mission or elective medical and dental procedures.

EMERGENCY CALLS
In the event of a serious emergency at home, the Mission President should be contacted.  However, if you are unable to reach him, call the Mission Office. The Mission President will personally contact you in the event of any serious problem concerning your missionary.

MAIL
Mail and parcels to missionaries should be sent to the mission office.  When addressing your letters or packages, please make sure you add your missionary’s full name.  We sometimes have missionaries who share the same last name!

Family members, especially parents, are encouraged to write to their missionary once a week.  We would encourage you to be selective in what you write and not burden your son or daughter with things they cannot do anything about while serving in the mission field. Girl and boy friends should also be supportive in their letter writing. No more than one letter per week should be sent.

Please review the information regarding Email that is provided in the Call Packet.

VISITS
While you are serving a mission, visits from family members, friends, and acquaintances are against Church policy.

DO NOT BRING
  • Playing cards, board games, or the like, footballs, soccer balls or any other sport or hobby equipment
  • Musical instruments
  • Any books other than the scriptures in your native language
  • Any item that is or resembles a weapon

MISSIONARY SUPPORT FUNDS (MSF CARD)
If you still have your MSF card from your mission, please bring it and please email the office to let us know whether you have one or not.

The mission adds a monthly amount to each missionary’s special bank account (MSF) to cover costs of groceries, personal grooming items, laundry, cleaning supplies, haircuts, postage for weekly letters to family, fast offerings, and transportation. Missionaries are usually able to meet these needs as they maintain reasonable budgeting habits.

MSF funds are not to be used for clothing, personal luxury items, cameras, photo developing, souvenirs, gifts, bicycle expenses, traffic fines, apartment damage, medical expenses (including dental, eye care, and prescriptions), or to subsidize any expenses at home. Some families provide their missionary with a personal debit or credit card to meet these and other unexpected emergency expenses.

It is important that missionaries are instructed by their families that these personal debit or credit cards are not to be used for routine expenses but must be reserved for unexpected legitimate expenses that are not covered by mission funding.  The mission experience is a valuable time for missionaries to learn proper and prudent time and financial management principles.
